Foundation Hope exists to assist those affected by natural disasters in the recovery, rebuilding and renewal of their lives, homes and communities.
One year after the eye of Hurricane Katrina ripped through the Mississippi Gulf Coast, its devastation and destruction remain evident everywhere. A drive in any direction reveals
roadsides still littered with debris – a sofa hanging from a tree, a mobile home lying on its side, a tug boat docked in the weeds. Block after block there are empty foundations and the
crumbled remains of homes that once welcomed and sheltered families, not unlike your own. For thousands, home sweet home remains a FEMA trailer parked on their vacant lot – and they’re
the lucky ones. Many still live in tents, though 62 miles away hundreds of unused FEMA trailers fill acres of storage lots.
Fortunately, there is hope. And you…
On August 29, 2005, Hurricane Katrina roared through the Gulf Coast. A Category 5 storm, Katrina, left in its wake unprecedented devastation and thousands whose lives were forever changed.
Patricia Bayles-Myrick rode out the storm in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Her home had survived, but all around her, neighbors’ homes had not. Her life was forever changed. God had touched
her heart with these words "I’ve taken care of your house now you go take care of mine."
Within days, Myrick left Hattiesburg, with the assistance of Rick and Teri Maddox, the Air McNair Foundation and The Favre Fourward Foundation, to distribute water, food, blankets and
other essentials to those struggling to survive in the areas hardest hit by Katrina – Bay Saint Louis, Waveland, Pearlington and Kiln, Mississippi. Ground zero. New Orleans captured the
world’s attention, but it was here that Katrina did her worst. Just days later, came Hurricane Rita.
Through a generous five million dollar in-kind donation from the People of Saudi Arabia, Foundation Hope seized the opportunity to begin rebuilding efforts in earnest. Brett and Deanna
Favre also added their support to college classmate, Myrick, with funds from The Favre Fourward Foundation to assist Foundation Hope, Inc. in rebuilding their hometowns located in
Hancock County, MS.
The compelling story of Foundation Hope is still being written. We hope it will include you.
